"Bach is everywhere," says Paul Goodwin, the fourth conductor and music director of the 74-year-old Carmel Bach Festival. "Bach influences everybody. His music is indestructible. It can be played fast, slow, loud, soft, on modern instruments, on old instruments, on a Moog synthesizer, whatever, and it is still sensational. There is only one Bach from that point of view. That's why creative programming with Bach is such a pleasure, because you can do it so many different ways and still learn something as well." |
